B.Eat Street

B.Eat Street have been behind some of the best foodie events over the last few years. #FOODFIGHT was great, Junkyard golf (Now reopened near Piccadilly) was even better. So we were highly anticipating their latest, most permanent venture yet.

Instantly you’ll be hit by an atmosphere as you walk into B.Eat Street, now situated outside, next to the AMC cinema, at the Great Northern Warehouse. Even on a Saturday night, when the ambience of some places can be ruined by people trying to drown their sorrows, the atmosphere is great. It’s just full of people enjoying themselves; who knew you could do this peacefully? And there’s a lot to enjoy.

Our advice is to get yourself a drink from one of the three great bars (although our pick would be the Lucky Lucky Late Bar), just wander around and take it all in. Your instincts will be to go and start sampling the street food straight away but there’s so much to offer that you might hinder yourself by doing this. Have a couple of drinks, whether that’s beer, wine, spirits or cocktails, and check out each vendor to see what they have to offer. If you jump at the first thing you see you might find something else later and regret your decision.

Although, to be honest, most of the food is really good. From grilled cheese, to jerk chicken, from pancakes to Indonesian cuisine, whoever you are there’s bound to be something you like. There’s a great balance between price, quality and speed as well. For a great sized (and tasting) meal you’ll be looking at about £10 which isn’t too shabby when you’ll generally only be waiting 5-10mins. The drinks can get a bit pricey but it’s no more expensive than most Manchester bars and this is a little bit different from your average place.

As mentioned, some popular places can be ruined by there being too many people and you spend your night fighting through the crowds and waiting too long to order a drink. This isn’t a problem we came across on our visits to B.Eat Street. We’ve found it to be pleasantly busy; which is possible the first time we’ve ever used that phrase.

Bring in the great selection of music with the rooftop deck chair seating and you’re on for an instant winner. On weekends it’s open till 2am as well, so you can literally go for tea, (drinking on a empty stomach can be dangerous), and then start and finish your night out right there. Unfortunately by the end of the night the food will have stopped being served, so you won’t be able to get your Saturday night drunken take away as well but then I suppose they’ve got to give others a chance.

The current street food vendors and bars are: Eat New York, Jerk, Lekker, Indian Canteen, Bali Beach Hut, Big Grille Style, Dim Sum SuLucky Lucky Late Bar, Milk of Burgundy and Kozel Lokal.

The Highs:
Quick, quality food in a unique upbeat atmosphere with some great tunes.

The Lows:
The portions are very big, which isn’t usually a low point for us but when there’s a lot of street food to get your hands on it would be nice to try a bit of everything. It would be cool to see all the businesses band together and offer small, taster portions so greedy foodie’s like us can try a bit of everything.

Back Again?
We’ll be going back! We could go back for just a bite to eat or a Friday night out, so a lot of situations would draw us back.
