See what we did there with the title? Clever, right?
Rudy’s isn’t a place you’ll stumble across and yet it always seems to be busy. Tucked away on a quiet square just off Great Ancoats, it’s a place that lives and thrives on it’s reputation and word of mouth. It’s a name we’ve been hearing for a while and now that we’ve finally managed to try it, we understand why.
The first thing that will hit you is the smell; and it’ll hit you as you’re still round the corner. So if you’re unsure of where you’re going, just follow your nose and you’ll find your way.
Inside, it’s charmingly simple; wooden chairs and tables with an open kitchen and pizza-oven with some cool pieces of art and chalk boards with the specials, on the walls. It’s a relatively small and intimate space but doesn’t feel cramped or overcrowded, even when full.
Like the décor, the menu is simple; a list of pizzas, a few sides, a couple of sandwiches (served 12pm-3pm) and some drinks. You come to Rudy’s to have a pizza and once you’ve tasted them you’ll realize why!
There’s an incredible freshness that you just don’t get in most places; the tomatoe sauce, the fresh basil, the dough, it all feels like it’s been made especially for you and it’s that which sets it a part from the rest.
The amount of textures that they manage to get into a pizza is impressive; you’ve got the crunchy baked base and crust, the fresh tomato sauce and the stringiness of the cheese and that’s before you even take in whatever toppings you’ve gone for. We’ll let this picture speak for itself on how good their pizza is.
There’s a lot of good pizza out there, (Trust us, we’ve attempted to try as much of it as possible), but Rudy’s is truly one of the best pizzas you’re going to get in Manchester. Plus you can get a great sized pizza and a drink for under a tenner. Whether it’s lunch, casual dining or a cheap meal out then Rudy’s is your place. Beats a Pizza Express or Pizza Hut any day (by a long way.)
The Highs:
Fantastic pizza, great prices, all round quality, good quantity and brilliant value for money.
The Lows:
If I’m scrapping the bottom of the barrel I would have liked a some fries/chips on the side menu but I just happened to be craving chips at the time and once I had my pizza my craving didn’t matter anymore.
Back Again?
We already have a Facebook inbox to arrange our next trip. Does that answer that question?
